Spaniel in Landscape
Spaniel in Landscape
Description:
A wonderful painting titled “The Reflection”, attributed to George Barret Jr (1767-1842), dating to the first half of the 19th century. Watercolour on paper and presented in a later but sympathetic gilt swept frame with a burgundy coloured velvet slip/mount (glazed). The Springer Spaniel (?) is depicted gazing at their reflection in a pond, laying in the grounds of a manor house seen in the distance with the owners and other dogs in the background. This painting is charming in its subject matter and also has great attention to detail such as the flowers in the foreground and the sheep in a distant field.
The painting is unsigned but has information later inscribed on a label verso. The label shows this painting was once part of the James Hall collection with the original price paid of £700.
