Silhouette of King George III
Silhouette of King George III
Description:
A painted silhouette portrait of King George III (1738-1820), dating to the late 18th century. Watercolour on paper with bronzed/gilt highlights and presented in a period black papier-mache frame with grape & leaf gilt brass hanger (flat glazed). This is a fine quality silhouette and is in the manner of John Miers (1756-1821) or John Field (1772-1848) and has captured a wonderful amount of detail. This is is a rare portrait of George III and is similar to a silhouette by Miers & Field that was used for the Worcester china design, which is part of the Royal Collection Trust (RCIN 452462).
The silhouette has been examined out of the frame and there is no signature or inscription to be found.
