Description:

An excellent folk art carved wood walking stick, dating to the first half of the 19th century. This finely carved walking stick has a naturalistic root-ball type handle and the entire shaft is carved with many animals, these include: 3 snakes, 3 fish, a crocodile, a dog's head (or could be a cat?), a horse's hoof, a salamander, a bird, and finally a tankard is in the middle. The stick is interspersed with naturalistic nodules throughout and the tip end is finished with a brass ferule. The piece is wonderfully naive and has developed a superb colour and patina.

Dimensions:

Length: 87.9cm. Widest part of the handle: 5.1cm

Condition:

Chip/damage to one nodule on the handle (see last photo). Age related wear as expected but overall excellent. Please examine photos carefully.
