A Victorian sampler, named and dated 1847, and presented under perspex glass in a period, veneered wooden frame with gilt slip– presumably original. This sampler is signed “Sarah Harrop in 1847” and is finely decorated with a poem, floral motifs, trees, and a portrait of the mother of Sarah with the initials “MH” on either side. The sampler is on its original stretcher and there is paper backing on the reverse with a partial family tree recently written. The poem on the sampler reads as follows:

“And can I ever cease to be
Affectionate and kind to thee
Who was so very kind to be
My mother.”.
