Description:
A Georgian silkwork sampler, named and dated 1778, and presented under perspex glass in a later (modern) wooden frame with gilt slip. This sampler is signed “Miss Anderson finished this the 15th of July in the Year 1778” and is finely decorated with a poem, floral motifs, trees, a landscape, two figures and animals including butterflies, birds, a squirrel, dog, deer, and a lion. The poem reads as follows:
“May Joys Substantial all your Steps attend,
May Calm Content your Happiness increase,
Your paths of Pleasure may they know no end,
And all your Scenes in Life be perfect Peace,
And when Old Age in all its Form appear,
And Death command you to the Bed of Clay,
May your blest Soul, without one anxious fear,
Prepar'd, mount up to dwell in Realms of day.”.

Frame size: 55.7cm x 40.3cm.
Condition:
There are multiple small to medium sized holes scattered throughout. The sampler appears to have been recently conserved and is mounted over linen with card backing. Despite the condition issues the pieces does display well and is ready to hang. Please examine photos carefully.
