Description:
A Georgian silkwork sampler, named and dated 1759, and presented under glass in a period, black wooden frame – presumably original. This sampler is signed “Wrought by IN Taught by EW in the year 1759” and is finely decorated with a poem, floral motifs, trees, two birds and two deer. The poem reads as follows:
“Gay dainty Flowers go swiftly to decay,
Poor wretched lifes short portion flies away,
We eat, we drink, we sleep, but lo anon,
Old Age steals on us never thought upon.”.
Dimensions:
Picture size: 32.2cm x 29.2cm.
Frame size: 37.8cm x 34.7cm.
Condition:
Untouched condition with multiple holes scattered throughout. Mounted on paper with wooden backing, screwed into back of frame. Some old wormholes to the reverse of the wooden backing. The frame has wear and tear with minor marks and some losses to the outer edges. Despite the condition issues the pieces does display well and is ready to hang. Please examine photos carefully.
