Description:
A Samoan war club, dating to the 19th century. This wooden club from Samoa is known as a “Lapalapa”, a tapering and rhombus-shaped club, similar to the Tongan Apa'apai clubs. This is a good old example decorated with carved tavatava designs arranged in geometric panels. The terminal end has the remnants of a lug. This club is carved from a heavy and dense hardwood and has an excellent dark patina.

Length: 66.5cm. Width: 13.4cm.
Condition:
Some chips and nibbles to the edges of the head. Old damage to the lug. Age related wear as expected. Overall good. Please examine photos carefully.
