A wonderful French school painting of a reclining nude, dating to the first half of the 19th century. Oil on tin and presented in an impressive period gilt swept frame. This fine painting is excellently observed with the reclining figure having subtle flesh colours, partially wrapped in a white silk cloth, resting upon vivid red cloth and set against a dark green backdrop. Her face is beautifully painted and there is great attention to detail with her hair entwined in her left hand and a jewelled gold bracelet on her left wrist.

Condition:
Fine craqueleur throughout, most visible in the dark areas. The paint appears very thin in the hair revealing red beneath, possibly from being over-cleaned at some point. Paint is also thin in some areas of the background revealing red beneath. There are some small minor surfaces marks in places. The frame has some small losses touched-in and some edge moulding re-glued. Age related wear as expected but overall in good ready to hang condition. Please examine photos carefully.
