An Austrian terracotta dog statue, dating to the late 19th century. This is a rare example and is excellently modelled, painted and has glass eyes. It depicts a dog wearing a collar with red tassels, its right paw raised and with clipped ears. I am unsure of the breed; there is a resemblance of a pug but as the ears are clipped it is possibly a fighting or hunting dog, such as a bulldog or mastiff? This is a wonderful statue that has a lot of character.
Small chip to back right toes. Small touch-in back of head behind dog's right ear. See last two photos. Age related wear as expected. Overall in good condition. Please examine photos carefully.
