Description:

A carved wood mallet, dating to the 19th century or possibly earlier. This large and heavy mallet is constructed of two pieces of oak; a large head and an inset handle. I would speculate this mallet would have originally been used for construction work, i.e. hammering wooden pegs into beams, but I am not 100% sure and it could have a different purpose. This is a tactile object that has been well used and has a wonderful primitive charm.
