This fine quality painting depicts a young girl with striking blonde hair and blue eyes, wearing a green jacket with a hint of a red dress. The painting is attributed to Guido Phillip Schmitt (1834-1922) by a label on the stretcher verso. The label is faded by age but is partially legible and reads “Study of Girl's Head. Mrs S....on's at 7 years old. 16” x …. by Guido Schmitt ….. 1861.”. This is a sensitive portrait that is finely painted and has captured the sitter well.
