A characterful portrait painting of an elderly lady, dating to circa 1830. Oil on canvas laid to board and presented in a period swept gilt frame. The painting depicts a half-length portrait of a stern looking lady with her arms crossed and is seated next to a delicate potted plant. The portrait is set within an interior and the sitter is dressed wearing a white bonnet and red shawl. This is a good quality portrait that has a lot of charm yet is quite confrontational with the central composition and the lady's forward looking gaze.
