Portrait of a Racehorse
Portrait of a Racehorse
Description:
A painting of a racehorse, dating to the first half or mid 19th century. Oil on canvas and presented in an earlier veneered frame with gilt slip. This fine quality painting depicts a black racehorse set within a stable. This is a slightly unusual and enigmatic horse portrait as it's painted almost as a silhouette with a hint of detail in areas such as the eye and hoofs. The stable is detailed with hay on the brick floor, a feeding trough against a wall and a saddle set upon a door. The frame is wonderful and dates to an earlier period. The painting is unsigned and not titled.
