Description:

An wonderful carved oak relief tondo depicting the Penitent Mary Magdalene, dating to the second half of the 17th century. This fine carving depicts a head & shoulder portrait of Mary Magdalene weeping tears whilst holding an open book with a skull resting on top. Carved from two pieces of oak fixed together: The relief caving is one piece which is fixed inside the surround and back which is the second piece.

Dimensions:

Height: 33.8cm. Width: 34.3cm. Approx depth: 3.8cm.

Condition:

Left side background has small section missing. The back and surround have a few horizontal splits, one which travels the whole width. There are no splits to the relief panel. Traces of old worm to the back top quarter and partially to the front of the surround – none on the relief panel. Age related wear as expected but overall in good condition. Please examine photos carefully.
