A Spanish carved wood & polychrome statue of the Virgin Mary, dating to the late 19th century. This finely carved statue depicts the Virgin Mary as “Our Lady of Sorrows” and is dressed in lace and embroidered black velvet clothes. The statue has a finely carved and painted head that also has glass eyes. The hands are particularly well carved with great detail to the fingers. The body of the statue appears to be of basic wooden construction painted blue and has been later fixed to a modern circular base.

Condition:
Missing tips of fingers on one hand. Some minor marks and wear to surface. The statue appears to have had the feet broken and has been crudely glued to the modern base. The Virgin Mary should have a halo that is now missing – evidenced by the small hole on top of her head and the cloak. Age related wear as expected. Overall good. Please examine photos carefully.
