Description:

A nocturne moonlight painting of a harbour/coastal scene, dating to the mid 19th century. Oil on canvas and presented in a later (20th c) gilt swept frame. This wonderful nocturne painting is carefully observed and depicts a harbour scene at moonlight with figures, boats and ships, a building and a lighthouse in the distance. There is a previous dealer label attached verso that reads “In the manner of HENRY PETHER 1828 – 1865. Painter of landscapes especially at moonlight. Probably son of Sebastian Exhib RA 1828-62. Member Royal Society of British Artists. Painted moonlight scenes along the Thames, in France and Venice.”.

Condition:

Painting has been relined. Some minimal and very small paint splatters scattered on the surface – hard to notice. Age related wear as expected. Overall in good ready to hang condition. Please examine photos carefully.
