An excellent quality carved marble sculpture depicting Spinario, also known as Boy with Thorn, dating to the late 19th century. The figure is seated upon a mound of rocks and is in deep concentration attempting to remove a thorn from the sole of his foot. This is a good sized depiction after the Greco-Roman Hellenistic bronze dating to the 1st century B.C that is in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome. A Roman marble version of this subject from the Medici collections is exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence.
