An Austrian terracotta pug dog statue, dating to the late 19th century. This is a life-size (or close-to) example that is excellently modelled, painted and has glass eyes. The statue depicts a pug dog that has a great expression with their tongue sticking out. The dog is wearing an orange collar that has good attention to detail with its modelled clasp and painted stitching. This is a wonderful statue that has a lot of character. There is some restoration that is detailed in the condition report below. Due to the size, weight and fragility, overseas shipping is costly.
Dog's front left leg has a restored break around where it meets the body. The dog's right ear has also been restored. Both of these restorations have been done to a professional high standard and are hard to detect – see last photos. There is a hairline crack to underside of back right leg and similar to back of front right leg. Both of these could be due to the firing/manufacturing process as everything appears strong and sturdy. There are two small wooden pads affixed underneath presumably to keep the dog sitting straight. Age related wear as expected. The restoration has been done to a high standard and the statue is otherwise good and presents well. Please examine photos carefully.
