Description:
A large gilt brass/bronze church monstrance, dating to the late 19th century. This is a very decorative and superb quality monstrance with the central reliquary holder surrounded by clear faceted cabochons and 6 larger red & green faceted cabochons, set within gilt brass repousse work of floral and scroll designs and further surrounded by rays of a large sunburst. The knopped stem has chased decoration and is set with 6 red & green faceted cabochons, and is supported by a hexafoil shaped base adorned with repousse work and 6 large red & green faceted cabochons, stood upon three decorative feet with floral and scroll designs.
The centre of the monstrance is glazed on both sides and can be opened on the reverse and has a slide fixture to hold a small luna that is now missing. I believe there should also be a cross/crucifix on top of the monstrance that is also missing.
A similar monstrance sold in Coronari Auctions 20/06/2024-21/06/2024, lot 437 price inc premium €1,657.50.
