Description:
An Indo-Portuguese or Spanish colonial carved wood and polychrome Corpus Christi, dating to the early 18th century. This finely carved Corpus Christi depicts Christ with a downward gaze and his arms outstretched. The piece has excellent polychrome decoration with greying flesh-tones and depicting the many bloody wounds that Christ endured. The piece has good attention to detail and carefully observed anatomy with fine quality carving to the face, the hands, the feet, and the loincloth. There is an old hanging loop to the reverse for display.
Dimensions:
Height: 34cm (head to toes). Width: 26.4cm (hands to hands).
Condition:
Damage to the fingers on both hands. Damage to one of the feet. Multiple areas of missing polychrome and revealing wood beneath. Age related wear as expected. Overall good. Please examine photos carefully.
