A wonderful Gothic Revival gilt brass Missal / book stand, dating to circa 1884. The book stand is designed with scrolling foliage and flowers on all four sides, and the front is embellished with enamel plaques depicting a winged lion and bull, and an angel. The stand is further embellished on the front with green and red glass cabochons – the two sides should also have these cabochons but they are missing (detailed condition report below). The top is engraved with a cross and an inscription that reads “G.D. 11. Mai 1884”.
Three cabochons are missing from the front (holes indicate they should be there). I believe there should also be 4 cabochons on each side that are also missing. Age related wear as expected but overall good. Please examine photos carefully.
