A large portrait painting of a lady, dating to the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas and later laid onto board, presented in a later gilt frame (21st century). This charming folk art painting depicts a half length portrait of a pretty lady wearing a white and blue dress, and a black hat. This is a wonderful folk art painting of good size and full of charm. There are some condition issues listed below.

Condition:
The painting has undergone restoration and has historic damage – the painting recently fixed onto board. There is a repaired tear with retouching across the left side of the hat which is noticeable especially in a raked light. There are two or three smaller repaired tears or creases on the white of the dress. There are some smaller scattered areas of retouched losses: two small areas in the dress, one on the side of the cheek next to earring, and some in the background. These areas of retouching are hard to notice unless under close inspection. There is a stretcher mark across the top of the painting with some retouching. Some surface dirt/discolouration. Despite all of these issues the painting does display well and has a great look. Please examine photos carefully.
