Description:
A carved wood statue of “Anima Sola”, dating to the 18th/19th century. This finely carved depiction of “Anima Sola”, a lonely soul burning in purgatory, consists of a carved & polychrome female figure dressed in red with arm outstretched, and two separately carved and gilded flames. A rare subject and is either Spanish or Spanish Colonial.

Condition:
Figure missing right arm. Fingers and thumb and very tips of some fingers of left hand. Scattered areas of loss to polychrome on figure. Some loss to gilding on flames revealing red paint (possibly later applied). Historic woodworm to figure and back of one flame. Age related wear as expected. Overall good. Please examine photos carefully.
