Description:

A superb carved black marble Vase, dating to the early or mid 19th century. This fine campana vase is in the manner of Benedetto Boschetti and based after the Medici vase with the same handles, acanthus designs, and socle. The vase is carved with a beaded and egg-and-dart rim, beneath the rim decorated in relief with grapevines, the lower section carved with scrolling acanthus leaves, flanked by handles either side each carved with two Satyr masks, on a fluted spreading socle raised on a square plinth.
This is a wonderful quality vase that could easily be mistaken for a bronze, but is in fact black marble that has been expertly carved.

Dimensions:

Height: 21.6cm. Diameter of rim: 18cm.

Condition:

Very small loss to part of the acanthus leaves on the lower section. Very small chip to rim. Wear to corners of the base. Some light surface marks. Age related wear as expected but overall in good condition. Please examine photos carefully.

Postage:
