A Black Forest carved wood nutcracker in the form of a gnome, dating to circa 1900. This fine carving depicts a full figure of a gnome seated upon on a tree. Wonderful attention to detail with finely carved beard, hat and clothes. The gnome's expression is great with his mouth opening and closing with the lever-action of the nutcracker. This is a rarer example of Black Forest gnome nutcrackers as it depicts a full figure rather than the usual head and shoulder type. The piece has a good dark colour and patina.
