An Austral Islands carved paddle, dating to circa 1830 or earlier. This paddle is intricately carved with complex and highly-detailed designs covering the entire surface. The rounded pommel is carved with 8 small dancing tiki figures. Given the size, this paddle is likely one of the earlier examples, dating between 1800-1830. This paddle has an excellent colour and patina.

Condition:
Old split where the paddle meets the shaft, but feels strong and stable (last photo). Small old chip to two of the tiki figures. Small hole in paddle. Age related wear as expected. Overall good. Please examine photos carefully.
