Description:
A carved alabaster statue of the “The Birth of Venus”, dating to the second half of the 19th century. This finely carved statue depicts Venus nude and reclining in a large shell with a winged Cupid by her side. This statue is after a bronze by Jacques Pradier (1790-1852) that was created circa 1838. This is a wonderful subject and rare to be found carved in alabaster. The piece has been finely carved with great attention to detail and has a good colour and patina.
Dimensions:
Height: 15.3cm. Width: 23.3cm. Depth: 10.6cm.

Fingers missing on right hand. One wing missing from cupid. Probably chip smoothed over to the toes of right foot. Possibly very small bruise/chip to tip of Venus's nose.
