This neoclassical boat-form style hanging lamp is influenced by Roman oil lamps and is very unusual being carved in wood rather than cast in bronze like similar examples. The piece is finely carved and gilded with a fluted underside and wonderfully carved eagle heads terminating at either end. The green lacquered body has four hooks for suspension from the chain and has two raised brass sconces with later faux candles. The sconces have small holes drilled and electrical light fixtures added. The piece is sold unwired and there is no ceiling fixture.
